YouTube app coming to Fire TV, Prime Videos app to get Chromecast capability

The feud between Amazon and Google is ending. The Fire TV will regain the YouTube app in the coming days and you will be able to Chromecast Prime Videos. The world is saved. In 2018, the YouTube app was pulled from Fire TV devices, but consumers could still use the YouTube app via the Fire TV browser. Since the browser experience is very similar to what the app offers, users weren’t drastically affected. However, on the other side of the coin, Amazon stopped selling the Chromecast on its online portal. It was also not possible for a consumer to Chromecast the Prime Videos app from his/her smartphone to the TV due to lack of support. The Chromecast supports a lot of popular streaming services such as Netflix, Hotstar and more so it was a bummer to not be able to cast Man in the High Castle to ones Chromecast.

All that is about to change. In a statement released, it has been confirmed that the YouTube app will come to the Fire TV and CNET reports that the app will come with Alexa support. Users will also be able to cast Prime videos content to their Chromecast or Chromecast enabled TVs. As of writing this story, the Chromecast feature isn't available on the Prime Videos app but expect it to come via an update.

Amazon has its 4K streaming stick called the Amazon Fire TV 4K in India to support those that have a 4K TV and want a smooth smart TV experience. On the other hand, Google has its 4K streaming stick, the Chromecast Ultra, but the stick isn't officially available in India. The last time we saw the Chromecast Ultra in action was during the announcement of Google game streaming service Stadia. You can read more about Stadia here.
