After accidentally deleting users’ files an then unintentionally deactivating licensed copies of Windows, Microsoft has seemingly got it together. Windows 10 October 2018 update version 1809 is finally starting to roll out once again, however, many of you won’t be getting it yet. The rollout was halted due to the initial bugs and while those have been sorted, there are still a few bumps along the way. Microsoft recently made the update available to those willing to manually check for it, but the update was throttled. Users will still need to manually check for the update, but once found, there will no throttling. Only those who have no been blacklisted by Microsoft due to compatibility issues will see the update for now. Microsoft has said that this upgrade route is for advanced users and that most others should ideally wait for automatic deployment. Some corporate users will continue to face incompatibility issues as Microsoft works out the kinks with regards to corporate VPN and security software. Microsoft’s October update has been endlessly plagued by issues, causing Microsoft to slow the rollout to a crawl. Microsoft’s previous feature update (version 1803) was one of the fastest to deploy, reaching full availability in under 3 months. We are already nearing the end of December and the October update has only just begun to roll out to advanced users. Given the number of hiccups this update has faced, there’s no denying that Microsoft is going to be exercising extreme caution in its rollout. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can get the update by simply running Windows Update and checking for updates manually. You don’t have to be a part of Microsoft’s Fast Ring users to get it. IF the update is available, it will start downloading automatically and will show up as “Feature Update to Windows 10, Version 1809.” Do make sure you create a system restore point before the update is installed. IF it doesn’t show up for you, chances are Microsoft may have blacklisted your system due to compatibility issues.
